Application & Platform Management Packs (AMPs & PMPs)

Application Management Packs (AMPs)

AMPs monitor all of the critical components of an application based on industry best-practices and thresholds, using all of the various monitoring capabilities of ViewITpro. AMPs eliminate the need to configure monitoring of dozens of individual performance and critical application components such as services, log files, and performance counters. AMPs monitor all of these items immediately upon being applied to a specified device or entire group of devices. Applying a management pack to an entire group of devices ensures that there is consistent monitoring of all the devices exactly the same way.

Another key advantage of ViewITpro AMPs is that they are not additional software agents to install or maintain. Most competitive applications require that the user purchase, install, and maintain separate software agents for each application to be monitored. This creates a maintenance headache and typically creates load and resource contention issues on the servers. ViewITpro’s unique architecture enables the user to apply AMPs without installing any new software. The ViewITpro thin-client host agent performs its duties with no significant impact on system resources.

A representative list of available AMPs includes:

·          MS Exchange

·          MS SQL Server

·          Oracle RDBMS

Platform Management Packs

Similar to AMPs, PMPs include everything required to properly monitor the most popular platforms. Platform Management Packs include the powerful monitoring capabilities detailed in Network Device Monitoring, but they are fine-tuned for best-practices for the specific platform. Appropriate syslog messages, SNMP statistics, and SNMP trap handling are pre-configured.

Current PMPs include:

·          MS Windows NT, 2000 and above

·          Novell Netware 5.x and above

·          Cisco network devices

·          Extreme Networks devices

·          Foundry network devices

·          Nortel Networks devices

·          Alcatel network devices

·          Lucent network devices
