·          ViewITpro Agent Related Questions:

What is the system overhead of ViewITpro Agents?

 A ViewITpro server agent averages memory utilization between 3-10 MB depending on tasks being performed. CPU utilization averages between 0 and 1% on single processor desktop class machines. The agent takes approximately 5 MB of disk space (most platforms).

Are ViewITpro Agents required?

 No. ViewITpro provides both agent and agentless monitoring, though ViewITpro recommends a mixture of the two methods for best results. ViewITpro recommends the ViewITpro server agent to achieve the most robust and secure server monitoring capabilities while it employs “agentless” techniques for monitoring of network devices.

What is the bandwidth utilization of ViewITpro?

 The bandwidth used by ViewITpro communications is variable, depending upon the number of monitored metrics, the amount of profile data collected, and the number of devices. ViewITpro enables the user to set separate schedules for monitoring and for profile data collection to optimize bandwidth consumption. Typically, each monitored data point submits a 100 byte packet from the agent back to the ViewITpro MCE server.

Is ViewITpro configurable in a highly available configuration?

 Yes. All of the functional components of ViewITpro can run on separate servers which can be clustered for complete active-active failover.

·          Backup and Recovery Questions:

What are the backup and recovery requirements for ViewITpro?

 The ViewITpro server is a Windows / SQL server that can be backed up using virtually any backup software. Users are simply required to back up the ViewITpro directory on the server and the SQL database. ViewITpro is completely recovered from a database restore and a restore of the ViewITpro directory on any Windows server.

What is ViewITpro's security policy for ViewITpro?

 ViewITpro's policy is to continuously apply third party vulnerability scanning and testing to the ViewITpro software and software stack as well as evaluate any vulnerabilities reported by end users or other third parties. ViewITpro will notify clients within two business days via email notification of any vulnerabilities that are found that would affect client's systems. The notification will contain an estimated time of delivery of an applicable patch.

What are the Security monitoring capabilities of ViewITpro?

 ViewITpro includes robust log file monitoring via regular expression pattern matching. Best-practices based security event monitoring is performed via Windows Security Event Log monitoring and Unix syslogs and su log monitoring. Firewall and router syslogs can be monitored as well. ViewITpro also includes powerful configuration and file monitoring capabilities which detect changes in any file or directory.

How is ViewITpro priced?

 Discuss pricing with a ViewITpro representative to obtain a detailed quotation to meet specific requirements. Pricing is determined on five criteria: 1. A base software license for the Standard (S), Enterprise (E), or Large Enterprise (LE) Edition; 2. Per device license (a fixed license fee per device. A device is any piece of hardware with a single OS image such as a server, router, or switch); 3. Management Packs for popular applications and platforms (MS SQL Server Management Pack, Cisco Management Pack); 4. Value-added options (ViewITpro WebStats, Ticketing, advanced reporting modules); 5. ViewITpro product maintenance and support plan. Server hardware and Microsoft software licensing can be included with the quotation, though customers are welcome to supply their own.

What are the available value-added options?

 Currently, ViewITpro has six separately-priced value added options: 1. Network Protocol Analysis Module; 2. Web Statistics Module; 3. Web Transactions Module; 4. ViewITpro Ticketing System; 5. Email Testing Module; and 6. Advanced Reports Module.

What Operating Systems does ViewITpro support?

 ViewITpro supports Microsoft Windows (all versions), HP-UX 10.x and higher, Solaris 2.6 and higher, AIX 4.x and higher, Netware 5.x and higher, Linux (Red Hat 7.x and higher, SuSE, Debian), Digital Unix (Tru64 v4x and higher).

What is the username/password to the demo software?

Use admin / test to logon as Administrator and support / test to log on as the support engineer user.

What are the limitations of the Trial Version?

Because ViewITpro is a multi-tier application, providing an easy to install trial version with full functionality is a challenge. For example, ViewITpro requires a full SQL Server database, though many potential trial users may not have an available SQL Server to use to evaluate ViewITpro. ViewITpro has bundled the limited Microsoft Database Engine (MSDE) database with the trial version to enable basic functionality. The Trial Version is therefore limited to 5 devices for those who use the MSDE / Full Trial Download. If you have your own SQL Server 2000, please follow these instructions to obtain a more complete evaluation version. The evaluation version and trial versions will not include all optional modules or management packs, though most of the core functionality will be available.
